Is your tile floor in your RV coming up?

Our customer called about the grout on their tile floor cracking in their RV. Upon inspection, we found that the tiles were installed on top of plywood, not backerboard.

Why is that a problem?

The plywood expands and contracts which causes shifting under the tiles. This shifting causes the grout to crack and the glue to let go due to all of that shifting. It wasn't hard to get a small spike and pull the tile up for a look to see what was going on.

Pay attention to the signs on your floor if this happening. There are a lot of RVs with tile flooring installed. If you notice your grout cracking, it is more than likely due to improper installation.
